My name is Ashley. I enjoy taking pictures during my free time and wanted to share some of my work. Growing up, my parents were always taking pictures or videos of things we did to capture our childhood, so having those memories have been a big part of my interest in photography. I started out taking pictures with my friends, using one of those cheap hand-held ones my parents bought me. Eventually, I started at my brother's hockey games, using an old Olympus DSLR camera (that I still have today) that my parents had, which was where I started learning about shutter speed to take better pictures. This led me to taking a photography class that was offered at my high school as part of the arts program where I learned more about lighting, composition, and all the aspects that go into photography.
I took some time away from photography during college, mainly due to the fact that my parents did not want me to take their only camera for some time because it was not as common yet for them to take pictures using their phones. Eventually they stopped using their camera and I was able to take it with me when I moved (and take it with me, I mean, I "borrowed" it until they stopped asking for it back... sorry Mom and Dad). Eventually, I plan to upgrade it, but it hasn't fully failed me yet, so it will stick around. I recently bought a Canon AE-1 film camera and have been learning how to take and develop film photos which has also been a super fun project to learn, especially since we are all at home more.
I am most interested in macro photograghy, because it gives me a peak into the world of all things tiny, and I also enjoy sunrise/sunset settings. I have also found that I enjoy B&W film, taking pictures of shadows or things with a lot of contrast. Most of my photos are of nature/inanimate objects because I tend to avoid portraits, but occasionally I will include people as a part of my shot, just not the main focus. There are also random cameos of my dogs who are big attention seekers. Since I am still learning, I am open to tips/tricks/advice as I learn and try out new styles!
This website will be used to share my photography, but I also included an "Other Projects" Page to include links to other things I work on, such as being a fashion influencer for brands on Instagram and a blog that I have about my house renovation projects.
Hope you enjoy!
